Empowered Alone: Celebrating Single Mothers During Women’s History Month

In the quiet of my living room, surrounded by unassembled baby furniture at seven months pregnant, tears streamed down my face. The gravity of becoming a single mom hit me like a wave, overshadowing the anticipated joys of first-time motherhood.

Navigating pregnancy alone plunged me into the darkest of emotions. Every day, I wore a mask of normalcy, but when no one was watching I was in a dark hole I didn’t see any light out of. Two years into building my business, doubt crept in, questioning my capacity to manage it all. The struggle to balance personal challenges with professional responsibilities was daunting.

The moment I first laid eyes on my daughter for the first time, clarity dawned-she was my light. Determined to create a bright future for us, I dug down deep to find renewed strength.

Sometimes, I catch myself revisiting that moment- seven months pregnant, on the floor, battling with baby furniture all by myself. It’s like my personal time capsule, a reminder of the journey from being broken to piecing myself back together, bit by bit. Motherhood is the incredible gift, overflowing with love and purpose, but let me tell you, being a single mom? That’s next level, badass!

Women’s history month is a perfect time to reflect on the remarkable strength and perseverance we have made within our own journey and those who have come before us. The trailblazers who shattered barriers to those who continue to make strides today.

Activists like Susan B. Anthony who dedicated their life to advocate tireless for women’s rights which contributed significantly to the eventual passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote.

Kamala Harris made history by becoming the first female Vice President of the United States. Her achievement represents a significant stride towards gender equality. This groundbreaking moment continues to inspire women globally to pursue leadership roles and contribute to shaping the future.

Celebrating Women’s History Month is our chance to cheer on the victories, recognize the hurdles, and light the way for those who will follow. I’m fortunate to have been raised by an absolute powerhouse of a mom and surrounded by kickass sisters. We’ve got this incredible strength when we stand together unbreakable and unstoppable. Cheers to the force we are, inspiring generations to come.

Empowering the Future: Celebrating Achievements and Advancing Gender Equality this Women’s History Month

March marks a significant period dedicated to reflecting on the remarkable journey of women throughout history. Women’s History Month is not just a time to celebrate the monumental achievements and contributions of women but also an opportunity to highlight the strides we’ve made towards gender equality and the distance we still need to cover. At J. Faith Hair Studio, the top hair salon in Logan TWP, we recognize the power and beauty of every woman’s story and are proud to honor this month by delving into the essence of women’s contributions and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

The Importance of Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month serves as a profound reminder of the strength, resilience, and ingenuity of women who have paved the way for future generations. It’s a time to acknowledge not just the well-known heroines of history but every woman who has contributed to the progress we enjoy today. This observance acts as a catalyst for research, sharing stories, and raising awareness about the diversity of women’s experiences and the work that remains in the fight for gender equality.

Gender equality, the state in which all individuals, regardless of gender, have equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities, is a goal that is as vital as ever. In recognizing this, we underscore the importance of every person’s contribution to this cause. Your voice, actions, and support can make a meaningful difference in continuing to shape a more equitable world.

The Legacy of Trailblazers

The history of women’s contributions is as diverse as it is profound, spanning various fields such as science, politics, and the arts. From the scientific breakthroughs of Marie Curie to the political leadership of Cleopatra and the artistic genius of Frida Kahlo, women have left indelible marks on the fabric of our world. Yet, for every known name, there are thousands of unsung heroines whose efforts have been equally pivotal in shaping our society.

Historical Overview of Key Women Figures

Women like Rosalind Franklin, whose work was crucial in understanding the DNA helix, and Ada Lovelace, considered the first computer programmer, have made groundbreaking contributions to science and technology. In politics, figures such as Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman elected to the United States Congress, have opened doors for women in leadership, advocating tirelessly for equality and justice.

Personal Stories of Lesser-Known Women

Behind these well-known stories are countless others like that of Elizabeth “Bessie” Coleman, the first African American woman to hold a pilot’s license, who overcame racial and gender barriers to follow her dream of flying. Or women like Maud Stevens Wagner, the first known female tattoo artist in the United States, who challenged societal norms to pursue her passion.

The Evolution of Women’s Rights

The journey towards women’s rights has been a tumultuous one, marked by significant milestones such as the women’s suffrage movement, which led to the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote in 1920. The 1960s and 1970s saw a resurgence of the feminist movement, advocating for reproductive rights, equal pay, and the end of gender discrimination. These pivotal moments in women’s history underscore the relentless spirit of those who fought for the rights we often take for granted today.

At J. Faith Hair Studio, we draw inspiration from these trailblazers, recognizing that every woman who walks through our doors carries a legacy of strength and resilience. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, let us honor the contributions of all women, known and unknown, and commit ourselves to the ongoing struggle for gender equality. It’s a tribute to those who have led the way and a promise to the future generations that we will continue the fight for a world where every woman can achieve her fullest potential.

Gender Equality Today: Progress and Challenges

As we navigate through the 21st century, the quest for gender equality has seen both significant achievements and ongoing challenges. The global landscape of gender equality is complex, marked by strides toward parity in some areas, while others lag behind, underscoring the need for continued advocacy and action.

Achievements in Gender Equality

Worldwide, we’ve witnessed remarkable progress in the fight for gender equality. Educational opportunities for women have expanded, leading to increased female participation in the workforce and in leadership roles across various sectors. Legal reforms in many countries have strengthened protections against gender-based violence and discrimination, and societal attitudes toward women’s rights continue to evolve positively.

One notable achievement is the increased visibility and recognition of women in STEM fields, where once, female representation was minimal. Similarly, political participation has grown, with more women holding public office today than at any point in history.

Ongoing Struggles and the Need for Advocacy

Despite these advancements, gender equality remains an elusive goal in many respects. The gender pay gap persists globally, with women often earning significantly less than their male counterparts for the same work. In many regions, women’s rights to health, education, and freedom from violence are still compromised.

The underrepresentation of women in executive positions and in decision-making roles highlights the structural barriers that continue to inhibit gender parity. Moreover, the impact of global crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, has disproportionately affected women, exacerbating existing inequalities.

The significance of continued advocacy cannot be overstated. Movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp have brought renewed attention to issues of sexual harassment and gender discrimination, demonstrating the power of collective action in challenging systemic inequalities.

Global Initiatives and Movements

Numerous global initiatives, such as the United Nations’ HeForShe campaign and the Women’s Empowerment Principles, aim to engage both men and women in the quest for gender equality. These movements work towards creating a unified front against gender bias, promoting policies that ensure women’s economic empowerment, health, and safety.

Supporting Women-Owned Businesses

In the journey toward gender equality, the economic empowerment of women plays a pivotal role. Supporting women-owned businesses is a tangible way to contribute to this empowerment, fostering a more inclusive and equitable economic landscape.

The Role of Women-Owned Businesses

Women-owned businesses are not just enterprises; they are testaments to resilience and innovation in the face of gender-based barriers. By establishing and leading successful businesses, women challenge stereotypes, create employment opportunities, and contribute significantly to their economies.

Identifying and Supporting Women-Owned Businesses

Supporting women-owned businesses can take many forms, from choosing to shop at local women-led stores to leveraging social media platforms to amplify women entrepreneurs’ visibility. It’s important to seek out and patronize these businesses, not just during Women’s History Month but as a consistent practice.

Additionally, platforms like Women Owned, which identifies businesses owned and operated by women, make it easier for consumers to support these ventures. By investing in women-owned businesses, you invest in women’s economic freedom, community development, and the fight against gender inequality.

Success Stories of Women Entrepreneurs

Case studies of successful women entrepreneurs serve as powerful illustrations of what is possible when women are supported in their business endeavors. For instance, Sara Blakely’s journey to becoming the youngest self-made female billionaire with her company Spanx highlights the impact of innovation coupled with determination. Similarly, Jessica Alba’s The Honest Company showcases how addressing a need in the market can lead to substantial business success.

These stories not only inspire but also underscore the importance of creating environments where women’s business ventures are encouraged and nurtured.

At J. Faith Hair Studio, we recognize the significant role that economic empowerment plays in advancing gender equality. By supporting women-owned businesses, we contribute to building a society that values and uplifts the contributions of all its members. Let us all commit to this cause, not just during Women’s History Month but throughout the year, and witness the transformative power of our collective support.

Women in Leadership Breaking the Glass Ceiling Marketing Integration A Guide to Omnichannel Success

Women in Leadership Breaking the Glass Ceiling

Women in Leadership: Breaking the Glass Ceiling

The journey toward gender equality is incomplete without addressing the disparity in leadership roles. The underrepresentation of women in leadership positions across various sectors highlights a critical gap in our pursuit of a balanced and inclusive society. The need for female representation at the top echelons of power is not just about equity; it’s about harnessing the unique perspectives and leadership styles that women bring to the table.

The Unique Qualities Women Bring to Leadership

Women leaders often exhibit qualities such as empathy, inclusivity, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving, which can lead to more comprehensive and innovative outcomes. Studies have shown that organizations with women in leadership positions tend to have better employee satisfaction, lower turnover, and higher profitability. Diversity in leadership leads to a diversity of thought, which is crucial for fostering creativity and driving change.

Strategies to Support and Encourage More Women into Leadership Roles

  1. Mentorship and Sponsorship Programs: Establishing programs that connect aspiring women leaders with mentors can provide them with the guidance, confidence, and network they need to ascend to leadership positions.
  2. Policy Reforms: Advocating for policies that ensure equal opportunities for advancement, pay equity, and protection against workplace discrimination is crucial. Implementing transparent criteria for promotions and leadership appointments can also help eliminate biases.
  3. Community Support and Networking: Creating platforms where women can share experiences, challenges, and strategies can be empowering. Professional networks play a crucial role in opening doors to leadership opportunities.
Aspect Past Present
Voting Rights Before the early 20th century, women in most countries could not vote. Today, women have the right to vote in nearly every country.
Education Limited access to education, with few opportunities for higher learning. Women now have equal rights to education, including higher education.
Workforce Participation Women’s participation was restricted to certain roles, often with lower pay. Women participate in all sectors, including leadership roles, though gaps remain.
Reproductive Rights Limited or no control over reproductive choices. Increased rights and access to reproductive health services.
Legal Rights Women had limited legal rights and were often considered property of their husbands. Women have equal legal rights in most areas, including marriage, divorce, and property ownership.
Political Representation Women were largely excluded from political leadership and decision-making roles. Women serve in significant numbers in parliaments and leadership positions worldwide, though parity is not yet achieved.
Sports and Athletics Women were often excluded from most competitive sports and athletic scholarships. Women actively participate in all levels of sports, including professional and Olympic levels.
Scientific Recognition Women scientists were often overlooked and undercredited for their contributions. Increasing recognition of women in STEM fields, including Nobel Prizes and leadership roles in scientific research.
Cultural and Social Norms Strict norms and expectations confined women to domestic roles and limited public life. Changing norms support women’s independence, expression, and diverse roles in society.

Advocating for Women’s Health and Rights

Women’s health is a cornerstone of gender equality. Prioritizing women’s health ensures that women have the same opportunities as men to lead healthy, fulfilling lives. This encompasses not only reproductive rights but also access to comprehensive healthcare services and protection against gender-based violence.

Prioritizing Women’s Health for Equality

Ensuring that women have access to quality healthcare, including reproductive health services, is fundamental to their autonomy and ability to participate fully in all aspects of life. Furthermore, combating gender-based violence is crucial for creating safe environments where women can thrive.

Overview of Major Women’s Health Issues and Initiatives

Women’s health issues range from maternal health and reproductive rights to non-reproductive health issues like cardiovascular disease and mental health. Initiatives such as the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescents’ Health (2016-2030) by the World Health Organization aim to address these issues through global action.

Advocating for and Supporting Women’s Health Rights

Individuals and communities can support women’s health rights in various ways:

  • Educate and Raise Awareness: Sharing information about women’s health issues can help reduce stigma and misinformation.
  • Support Health Organizations: Donating to or volunteering with organizations that focus on women’s health and rights can make a significant impact.
  • Advocate for Policy Change: Engaging in advocacy efforts to support healthcare policies that protect and advance women’s health is crucial.

At J. Faith Hair Studio, we recognize the integral role women play in leading and enriching our communities. By breaking the glass ceiling and advocating for women’s health and rights, we move closer to a world where every woman can achieve her highest potential. Let us continue to support and uplift each other, not just during Women’s History Month but every day, as we strive for a more equitable and just society.

Why I Decided to Go Gratuity-Free at J. Faith Hair Studio, South Jersey’s Premier Salon

Isn’t it interesting that sometimes the sole reason we do something a certain way is simply because it’s been suggested to us? It wasn’t until I intentionally sought out a different approach that I discovered a better, more sensible way. At J. Faith Hair Studio, the premier hair salon in South Jersey, we’ve decided to adopt a gratuity-free model. Here’s why.

Understanding the Change: The Gratuity-Free Movement

Clients Are Tired of Tipping

In 2024, the tipping culture feels overwhelmingly pervasive. It seems no matter where you go, there’s an expectation to leave a tip. But what if we told you there’s a better way for both clients and hairstylists? Going gratuity-free isn’t just a trend; it’s a movement towards transparency, fairness, and professionalism.

Three Reasons Why Hairstylists Should Go Gratuity-Free

1. Transparency in Pricing

Going gratuity-free promotes a clear understanding of pricing. Clients appreciate knowing exactly what they’re expected to pay without the added pressure or uncertainty of tipping. This honesty in transactions fosters trust between clients and stylists, making J. Faith Hair Studio a trusted name in the South Jersey hair salon scene.

2. Fair Compensation for Hairstylists

By eliminating tips, we advocate for fair, competitive wages for our stylists. This approach ensures our team is adequately compensated for their skill and time, addressing the income disparities that can exist within the beauty industry. It’s a step towards recognizing the true value of our professionals.

3. Elevating Professionalism

Adopting a gratuity-free model enhances the perception of hairstylists as true professionals. This shift focuses on the value of our expertise rather than the expectation of a tip. It creates a more professional, respected atmosphere in our salon, reinforcing J. Faith Hair Studio’s reputation as the leading salon in South Jersey.

What This Means for You

Choosing to go gratuity-free is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and fairness. We believe this decision benefits everyone involved – our valued clients and our dedicated team of stylists. It’s about creating the best possible experience and maintaining the highest standards of service at J. Faith Hair Studio.

Join Us in Embracing Change

As the premier hair salon in South Jersey, J. Faith Hair Studio is proud to lead the way in this innovative approach to salon services. We invite you to experience the difference of a gratuity-free salon, where transparency, fairness, and professionalism are at the heart of everything we do.

6 Things They Don’t Tell You About Being a Hairstylist

Being a hairstylist is one of the most fulfilling careers, but it comes with its own challenges and is truly a lifestyle. While the art of hairstyling allows us to unleash our creativity and transform our clients’ looks, there are aspects of this profession that often go unnoticed. In this blog post, we want to shed light on six things that people don’t always talk about when it comes to being a hairstylist.

  • Long Hours:

As hairstylists, we adapt our schedules to accommodate our clients’ availability. This means working long hours, including early mornings, late nights, and even weekends. The dedication and flexibility required to meet the needs of our clients can be both rewarding and demanding.

  • Physical Demands:

Hairstyling can be physically demanding on our bodies. While we strive to create beautiful hairstyles, we often find ourselves bending, twisting, and holding our arms up for extended periods. It’s important to prioritize self-care, maintain proper posture, and engage in exercises or stretches that alleviate the strain on our bodies.

  • Emotional Labor:

As hairstylists, we become more than just professionals who cut and style hair. We listen to our clients’ personal stories, provide a safe space for them to share their joys and struggles, and offer support and guidance. It is an honor to have the trust of our clients, but this emotional labor can also be draining. Taking care of our own emotional well-being and setting boundaries is crucial to maintain a healthy balance.

  • Continuing Education:

The beauty industry is constantly evolving, with new trends, techniques, and products emerging regularly. As hairstylists, we must stay up-to-date and continuously enhance our skills. Investing in continuing education, attending workshops, and staying connected to industry resources is essential to offer the best services to our clients.

  • Building a Clientele:

Building a loyal clientele takes time, effort, and dedication, especially when starting out in the industry. It’s not just about providing exceptional hairstyling services; it also involves building a strong reputation, networking, and effectively marketing yourself. Through consistent hard work and a commitment to delivering outstanding results, you can gradually grow your clientele base.

  • Dealing with Difficult Clients:

While the majority of our clients are wonderful to work with, there will always be a few who present challenges. Learning how to handle difficult situations professionally and effectively is an important skill to develop. By maintaining open communication, actively listening to their concerns, and finding amicable solutions, we can navigate these situations with grace and maintain positive relationships.

Being a hairstylist is a passion that requires dedication, resilience, and a continuous drive for growth. It’s not just a job but a lifestyle that allows us to express our creativity and make a positive impact on people’s lives. Despite the challenges we face, the rewards are immeasurable.

If you’re a fellow hairstylist, remember that you’re not alone in your journey. Reach out to other professionals, join communities or forums, and support one another. Together, we can thrive and create a vibrant and thriving hairstyling community.

At J FaithHair Studio, we are committed to providing exceptional hairstyling services and ensuring the well-being of our clients. We invite you to experience the artistry and care that sets us apart. Book an appointment with our talented team and let us help you unleash your true beauty.

Remember, behind every stunning hairstyle is a hairstylist who pours their heart and soul into their craft. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the victories, and continue to pursue excellence in everything you do.

Honoring Women’s History Month

In honor of women’s history month, I feel encouraged by all the achievements and contributions of women throughout our history. Those who have gone before us to fight and to pave a way for us. Honoring Women’s history month provides us with an opportunity to research, write, share, and raise awareness of the diversity of women’s lived experiences and the work that remains to be done. I recognize the ongoing struggles that we continue to face in the pursuit of gender equality.

Gender equality is when all people of all genders have equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities. We need you, you matter, you are important, and you can help make a difference.

Here are a few ways that are near and dear to my heart:

  1. Women-owned businesses

Supporting women-owned businesses is an important way to promote gender equality and empower women economically. Shop women-owned businesses and make a conscious effort to support that business. Spread the word by talking about the business to your friends and family, write the business a positive review, and interact on social media. Attend fundraising events hosted by women, collaborate, and consider investing in women-owned businesses.

  1. Women in Leadership Roles

Having female leaders in positions of influence to serve as role models is critical to the career advancement of women. Women bring a different perspective, which can help foster innovation and creativity. Women in leadership understand the value of promoting work-life balance and tend to be more inclusive, reach out to their peers, and truly care about those they lead. Women are empathetic, encourage free thinking, have a strong focus on teamwork, are excellent multitaskers, highly motivated, and strong communicators. All strong qualities that a great leader must have.

  1. Women’s Health

Protecting women’s health is essential, as it ensures that women have the same opportunities to lead healthy and fulfilling lives as men.

  1. Make a stand against domestic violence and make your voice be heard to eliminate gender-based violence.
  2. Women should have equal access to affordable and quality healthcare.
  3. Raising awareness about women’s health issues can reduce stigma and discrimination and encourage women to seek the care they need.

We must continue to encourage women’s empowerment to create a more just and fair society not only for ourselves, but for the next generation. Let’s help promote the well-being of all women! Happy Women’s History Month.

Dear Beauty School Graduate,

Being a hairstylist is one of the most amazing careers that many could only dream to have.

I often hear the comment “I always wanted to be a hairstylist.” Being a hairstylist is one of the most amazing careers that many could only dream to have. It is a lifestyle fueled by passion, excitement, purpose, and nothing short of hard work. Fulfilling your drive to feed your creativity and helping others look and feel their best. When starting your career as a hairstylist it is important to keep this in mind. Become dedicated to being a lifelong learner. In a profession that is always changing and is always evolving you must have the willingness to learn and adapt.

You completed 1200 hours of beauty school now what?

You completed 1200 hours of beauty school and officially passed your state board exam…now what? Congratulations on your first accomplishment of your career! Beauty school serves as an introduction to the beauty industry and gives you the foundation of the art of doing hair. Many want to finish school and jump behind the chair. But in my experience the most detrimental move you could make in your career is to get behind the chair right out of completing school. Like many trades it is important to apprentice and gain real life experience inside of a salon. The knowledge you will gain will launch you into a much more successful position.

First start by seeking a mentor that has already accomplished what you are setting out to accomplish and is willing to coach you along your journey.  Find a salon whose culture is elevating the beauty industry, investing into their team, and providing a safe space for growth and potential.

How to Find the Perfect Mentor for Your Beauty Career

Completing beauty school is a significant achievement, but it’s only the beginning of your career as a hairstylist. To truly thrive in this industry, you need to find a mentor who can guide you along your journey. A good mentor will help you navigate the ups and downs of the business, teach you new skills, and provide you with the support you need to succeed.

So, how do you find the perfect mentor for your beauty career? Here are a few tips:

  1. Look for someone who has achieved what you want to achieve. When searching for a mentor, it’s important to find someone who has already accomplished what you’re striving for. Look for someone who has a successful career in the beauty industry and has achieved the level of success that you hope to attain.
  2. Seek out a mentor who aligns with your values. It’s crucial to find a mentor who shares your values and has a similar approach to the beauty industry. Look for someone whose work and personality align with your own.
  3. Find a mentor who is willing to invest in you. A good mentor is someone who is willing to invest time and effort in helping you succeed. Look for someone who is willing to provide guidance, answer your questions, and share their knowledge with you.
  4. Look for a salon with a strong culture. When searching for a mentor, it’s important to find a salon with a strong culture that is dedicated to elevating the beauty industry. A salon that invests in its team and provides a safe space for growth and potential is a great place to find a mentor.
  5. Attend beauty events and network. Attending beauty events and networking with other professionals in the industry is a great way to find a mentor. You never know who you might meet and what opportunities may arise.

Finding the perfect mentor for your beauty career is essential to your success. Look for someone who has achieved what you want to achieve, shares your values, is willing to invest in you, and is part of a salon with a strong culture. With the right mentor by your side, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your dreams in the beauty industry.

The business of doing hair

There are two parts to this business.

  1. The Craft, the art of performing services. First you must start with the fundamentals which you learned in school. As you start to develop your craft, you will learn different ways to cut, color, and style hair, but you will find your own unique way. Practice creates progression. There is not a destination when it comes to practicing your craft, just a beautiful journey, always evolving, always learning, always growing. I once heard it takes 1,000 foils to become good at foiling, just keep going!

  1. The Business of Hair, the systems. Having strong systems in place will help you when building a book of business behind the chair. Start with where you are now and create a solid referral program, ask you friends and family to send you referrals. You must give something to get something, maybe offer a complimentary blowout to every new guest, or a percentage off. Now retention is the name of the game. Make sure each guest has their next visit scheduled with you before they leave. Focus on service and retail dollars, retention, and referrals. This will not only help launch a successful business behind the chair but help you to build strong systems that you will need for the lifetime of your career. It never gets easier, you just get stronger, and better at understanding the business.

Most importantly, stay inspired. Surround yourself with other hairstylists that push you to become the best version of yourself. Stay plugged in and continue your education both with your craft and the business of hair. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Let people know who you are, what you do, and where you do it.

Welcome to the beauty industry!

Three Important Traits Of An Effective Leader

What does it mean to lead? To lead is to be an example for others to follow. Leaders go first, show first, and use their own actions as an example. Leaders don’t ask others unless they are willing to go first and guide the way for their team.

Leadership is essential in all businesses and becoming an effective leader doesn’t happen overnight. To grow as a leader takes time and commitment of learning new ways to not only motivate yourself, but others.

  • Communication

Strong leaders know the importance of being able to communicate well and understand communication is the foundation of effective leadership. Creating a schedule to meet with your team on a regular basis to make space to spend time talking, problem solving, and of course listening. Communication is just as much about listening as it is talking. Practicing strong communication skills will help build culture and trust.

  • Honesty

Honesty is such an important trait for a leader. Being honest helps gain respect for those who you inspire. Start with being honest about who you are, and what you stand for is important to gain respect. Just because you are a leader doesn’t mean you are perfect and your ideas are always the best, the power of admitting to your mistakes and being honesty only grows a deeper credibility with your team.

  • Integrity

Leaders with integrity practice what they preach and stand for what they believe in. Doing exactly what you said you would do long after the moment when you said it in has passed. We do business with integrity is a broad statement I find myself saying often, but what does that mean? Simply put, we always act in honor whether that is with our team or our guests. Having integrity within your business creates better decision making, trust, and teamwork.

Effective leaders are dedicated to developing their skills to be able to best serve their team. As a leader your role is to inspire and motivated your team through the vision you have set. Develop strong relationships to identify your teams’ strengths which allows you to help your team reach their full potential. Creating a strong culture provides a strong atmosphere for your business to thrive in. By creating a great atmosphere, it will support and encourage your team.

Remember people don’t want to be managed, they want to be lead, so lead from the front.

Hairstylists Guide To Goal Setting

Every new year brings new beginnings. It might even feel like one chapter has closed and another is just beginning. It is a great time to start to reflect on the past year and plan for the new. What goals did you set for yourself this past year? Did you meet your goal or fall short? What did you do well, and what needs improvement? Taking time for reflection can be a powerful asset when setting yourself up for a new start. Goal setting can be used as self-accountability and keep us motivated. It helps identify where your focus needs to be and prioritize the importance of each goal. What you don’t measure you can’t improve.

How Do Hairstylists’ Goal Set?

Behind any goal must be a strong why of why you want to achieve this goal in the first place. Your intention is what feeds your motivation which will define your actions. If the motivation behind the goal isn’t strong it will be easy for you to not see it through. You can use the S.M.A.R.T method as a blueprint to help set your goals. The S.M.A.R.T method is an acronym that stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound.
Be clear about your goal so it is easier to achieve. Measurable goals can be tracked and allow you to see your progress and help you understand the steps you need to take to get closer to your goal. Make sure your goal is relevant and realistic. If your goal creates a feeling of overwhelm, stress, or frustration you may need to break that goal down into smaller goals. Timebound goals help us stay on track and focused. Give yourself a deadline to achieve your goal or to check your progress periodically.

What Is One Of Your Goals For 2023?

For many of us a strong goal would be to attract new guests to our business behind the chair. Our why for that goal would be to build a stronger client base and grow our demand of time. The top two ways we see new guests behind the chair are referrals, and social media.

What Are S.M.A.R.T Goals?

Let’s set the goal:

  • Specific: I want to see 5 new guests in my chair each month.
  • Measurable: I can track how many new guests I see and how they heard of my business.
  • Attainable: I created a strong referral program and launched a social media campaign for new guests.
  • Relevant: The goal aligns with growing my business.
  • Time: 5 new guests a month, and I will review each month.

How to attract new guests behind the chair?

We just created a new goal that is clear and to the point. A goal that can be tracked, one that is realistic and relevant to our business, and can be achieved in a timely manner. Using this guide can help you set goals, develop new behavior and sustain momentum toward anything you want to achieve behind the chair.

I hope you find this to be helpful and inspiring.
Happy goal planning.

How To Build Promotions Inside Your Salon Company

What are the top three most important promotional categories?

With everything we do inside of our business we always start with the “why” behind what we do and how we do it. Why do we need a strong promotional calendar for our business? We need to start by understanding our business’s unique high times and low times throughout the year. We create and use these promotions to tell our guests what we want them to do within our business in a year’s time.

Within the beauty or service-based industry typically January and August are a slower time of the year. With springtime, and holiday seasons being a busier time.

Taking the time to map out your business’s promotional calendar in the beginning of the year will save you so much time and stress throughout the year, and of course you can always adjust and change as you are inspired by working inside of your business.

We have three promotion categories to keep in mind when setting up your promotion calendar.

  1. Service
    2. Retail
    3. Gift Certificate

My biggest piece of advice when creating promotions inside your salon.

The biggest piece of advice I could offer when it comes to creating promotions would be to get creative, try new things, and always track what works and what does not work.

1. Service promotions will drive your guests to a certain service. You may consider launching a service promotion when you have a new service to offer, or to boost add on services, or maybe when you just get a damn good deal on lightener that month!

Service promotions will drive your guests to a certain service.

Here are some service promotions that have done well inside of my salon company:
a. The $22 Blowout
One sure way to drive business and to fill your stylist’s schedules is a blowout sale!
b. Seasonal Menu’s
Combine two add on services for one price and offer it for a limited time.
c. $10 towards any lightening service.
Grab those lighteners when they are on sale and pass the discount onto your guests for a quick boost to your color service sales.

Gone are the days for salon to mark up their retail 50% and here is why.

2. Retail promotions, gone are the days of a 50% mark up on hair care. We all can agree we want our guests to enjoy the best of the best hair care, so make them an offer they can’t refuse.

A few of my go to retail promotions that have worked well inside my salon company:
a. Spin the wheel
You can purchase a spin the wheel on amazon, and at the time of check have each guest spin the wheel for a discount. It is a way to offer your guests more than what they came in for from the moment they walk in.
b. Purchase two products and receive 25% off both products.
c. Buy More, Save more.
Use these kinds of retail promotions to encourage your guest to buy more than one product. Everyone needs shampoo and conditioner@

Gift certificate promotions work best for salons during gift giving times.

3. Gift Card Promotions work best around any holiday that includes gift giving. Everyone loves the feeling of getting something extra and that is no different for our business, so give your guest what they want.
a. When you purchase a $100 gift certificate, receive $10 on us!
When running a promotion like this, be sure to enclose an expiration date.

One of my favorite incentives to run inside of my business is “Enter to Win”. This type of promotion is not only fun and exciting for your guests, but your team as well. I have used this kind of incentive for many years’ and it has made a positive impact inside of my salon company.
Depending on the time of year there are a ton of fun things you can giveaway.

Here are a few things I have given away inside of my salon company:
a. Smart TV
b. Apple Air pods
c. Beach Cooler
d. Grills
e. Products and Gift Certificate

By offering to enter the guests to win, we are asking them to reserve their next visit, purchase products, send us referrals, or leave us a positive review.

How to offer your guests more than what they came in for, from the moment they walk in.

There is so much you can do to really make these promotions and incentive your own. If you are consistent and purposeful, your guests will come to not only expect great promotions but to be excited for what’s next. I love to hear our loyal guests talk about what fun things they have won inside of our salon company, and all the great deals they have received.

Happy Planning!
